I've got Harley on Feedmark's Opti-Muscle, which is a new supplement they've brought out. What a difference! He now actually HAS some muscles, and they move and shape nicely - I can see them working when he comes towardsme and I haven't seen that for a year ;D
I've been trying to get muscle onto Harley since the beginning of the year when I brought him back into work following his bad episodes and holiday at Glasgow vet school, but he's looked like an unschooled 4 year old all year, without any definition or tone. He's been on the new stuff for 3 weeks and just in the last week I've noticed a real difference in him.
It's quite expensive but definitely worth a go.

That's great news! I started Harvey on this supplement a week ago so too soon to know whether it is helping him. He hadn't got to the stage of losing muscle but he is certainly much brighter in himself now. He's getting his bloods retested this week and then, hopefully, I will be able to start ridden work again but very gradually.

That's great Jane! Have you been able to ride him very much this summer? Pam- has something been wrong with harvey? I know I haven't been on here at all this summer.

Hi Chloe, yes Harvey has had a very strange year. He started in February with unusual skin allergies. This eventually cleared up but then a few weeks ago he started to suffer with tying up - after a night of passion in the field with Dolly. Initially vets thought it was some sort of pulled muscle but blood tests confirmed tying up. He hasn't been biopsied for EPSM but it is a strong possibility. he will be having his bloods retested this week. I haven't altered his diet because he has always been on a very low starch, high oil diet but I've put him on Optimuscle. He seems fine at the moment but I haven't put a saddle on him yet. How is Happy?

Yes, Harley is actually on great form at the moment, who knows if it will last but I'm enjoying it - he's even being bolshy and pretending to be a rocking horse again - WEEEE!!! I never thought I'd be happy when he was being a git!
The Optimuscle really seems to have helped him a lot, as it is since I put him on that the changes have come, so I'm sticking with it.
How are you and Happy getting on?

That's great that harley is doing so much better! and Pam, I hope you figure Harvey out soon, I know that he's older and is it unusual for and older horse to develop EPSM? Happy is in boot camp at the moment He is totally being a snot, but as far as his PSSM goes, he is doing just fine. he seems to be nice and relaxed when i ride him (unless he's trying to bolt sideways across the arena that is : as well as after. He is also building muscle nicely and FINALY i no longer have to battle with his weight amazingly, he was actually on the heavy side for part of the summer !
