I thought it might be handy to have a list of symptoms - they are wide and varied!
Loss of muscle mass or conditioning, especially in the shoulder or hind quarters. Abnormal gait due to mechanical lameness in one or both hind legs. Trembling, especially after exercise. Difficulty rising, backing, or reluctance to back. Lack of energy. Poor performance. Hard muscles. Grumpiness at girthing. Reluctance to pick up feet for shoeing. Lifting or “stomping” of hind limb or limbs, especially while standing. Episodes of colic, especially after exercise. Slightly stiff, awkward, or short strided hind limb gait (often with no hock action). Tying up.Parking out as if to pee but not then peeing. Lying down suddenly, unable to rise. Skin sensitivity - to flies, touch, prickly bushes. Fondness of rolling and scratching. Sometimes an anxious outlook. Some weight loss (Harley lost 10% of his body weight). Sensitivity to the cold and rain - muscles go rock hard.

Harvey's symptoms were:
Hard muscles Stomping hind limbs while standing Tying up, first behind and then later in front. Skin sensitivity to flies etc Rolling, scratching and even throwing himself against a wall
Before the actual tying up, the symptoms he showed could have been put down to all sorts of things. It is only in hindsight that I realised what was happening.

We found a noticable difference in energy levels the week before it happened and a sweating/clamminess on the skin as the episode was occuring.
Afterwards, a dip in the muscle (over the hind quarter). It came on quickly and took a long time to rebuild.
