Hi
I have a 6 year old gelding who gets really bad runs in the Autumn....i bought him 18 months ago - last year he was given the 'kill all' wormer which I thought set him off - but he hasn't had it this year and he is still showing very loose stools - cowpats some days......last year is was acute and no matter what the vet did, it didn't clear it up.....it has been off and on for the rest of this year. I have him off the grass completely at the moment on hay and water. He is also on NAF Biotic (10 day course) and Thunderbrook gut restore.
I do know that his sister died from grass sickness.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks Liz and Lowhouses Marlon.

NAF pink powder will help if its change in grass which it could well be. We have a pony very sensitive to changes in grass or hay and she has this and it really helps her. You could also try something like Yakult in the short term to see if it helps him - I have used that in the past with good results too. edited to clarify, try yakult before you get any pink powder, I didn't mean at the same time

May be worth trying this www.finefettlefeed.com/ ...[happy tums] My mare suffers with the runs when the grass comes to an end and she has to go onto Hay...last year she was much improved with this product.

I've recently used Pro-Kolin for foals and Pro-Paste, both probiotic supplements to 'encourage normal digestive function' during times of stress, with the Pro-Kolin also containing kaolin. They're from the Protexin Veterinary equine range.
I would normally use a plain, live yoghurt and wouldn't have thought of buying such a product as these, but tried them because I was given free samples ;D. I have to say, I was impressed, both performed well.

Hi there!
I just had a vet out to my old retired Fell. She has the runs occasionally but I can't see a pattern. The vet clocked it straight away...when it's really rainy......put wet grass in get wet sloppy grass out...... And I do believe he's right!!! Ah that's why we pay them so much!!
Hope that might be of use...
