Hi, When writing my New Years Resolutions on the message board I should have added considering taking Phoebe to her first show (with me). But, I'm slightly unsure/intimidated where to start as she's not registered (which is a shame because she looks 100% beautiful Dales to me - but then I'm a little biased ). Could anyone advise me what classes I could enter her in and any suitable shows to start with (ie., friendly, not intimidating). She's 9 and we are near Peebles in the Scottish Borders.. Many thanks in advance Well done Charliefar on your show - I didn't want to hijack your thread!

Jay is also unregistered. I'm afraid I don't know about shows up your way, but its a case of looking out for Mountain and Moorland classes which which allow unregistered ponies to enter. I've found that most shows at local level don't specify whether they must be registered or not on the schedule, but when I rang the secretary to check they said we were fine to enter. Other classes we have done are 'cob type' which tend to cover hogged and hairy types, and also 'riding club horse'. We have also done an in-hand 'horse/pony of driving type' class. You'll also be able to do tack and turnout, best condition etc. Hope this helps. Best of luck

Hi Newbie, excellent resolution and Thanks From my previous experience with natives at a local level it won't matter, most M&M's are split into large and small breeds and are mixed classes anyway. Quite often the judges won't ask so you should be fine. I had an unregistered fell mare and registered welsh mares. If you enter classes which you can qualify for shows such as Equifest etc you might find they have conditions that only registered ponies & horses can qualify but that doesn't mean you cant win the class you're in tho!!!! It will probably only become an issue at a higher level when you start playing with the big boys ( i'm assuming that but don't know for sure ) Other than that just go and have fun, and remember showing's only one judges opinion on the day and they don't always see what we do. I can't recommend any shows locally tho i'm afraid, I'm not in your area but I'm sure there will be lots when you start looking for them Good luck and keep us all updated
