We have recently had the vet out to check on Blue's progress through his spavins. The good news is that she was very pleased and he passed his flexion tests on both hind legs!
So, we have now reduced his Danilon to one a day with a view to reducing it again to one every other day. He has been switched to Cortaflex and has been that for 10 days and seems really well.
Have you any advice about what to do next? My instructor suggested introducing Devil's Claw and reducing the Danilon again and monitoring him closely. What do you think?

A friend of mine uses Feedmakr Zerobute with great success for her big horse with spavin, might be worth a look? I used it for an ancient arthritic pony and it helped her a lot too.

I had my elderly Shetland pony on Zerobute for around 8yrs. It really helped him and we seemed to have no negative side effects.
I like it as it includes things to boost circulation and stuff to help detox all the yuck that builds up during the inflammatory process as well as the devil's claw.

I have had my old Dales lady on No-Bute and there have been no ill effects after about 3 years. Three years ago at 19 she was almost being retired due to stiff hip joints and strange lameness very high up in her rump. She had various successful treatments from an equine osteopath but the problems came back after a few weeks. She was not lying down though seemed quite happy otherwise.
Since she has been on No-Bute I started riding her again occasionally, but now she is being ridden by a friend a couple of times a week and is more than happy accompanying my four year old out for short hacks. She trots and canters for short periods very willingly. She lies down easily, and can (and does) roll right over and back again almost every time she is turned out after a ride.
I think it is fantastic stuff and can highly recommend it. Buy it on line at a big saving straght from the manufacturers. Just Google No-Bute and it comes up easily.

Very interested in this as sonny has just been diagnosed with arthritis in his coffin bone/joint. He's been on synequin for 2 weeks now but a friend of mine uses the zero bute and has good results. Also heard an msm supplement is good?

MSM is good, also with something like Chrondoitin in it too. Check out the dosage and percentage of active ingredient with price per day though as it can be very variable.

Thanks the synequin has chrondoitin in it so just ordered some msm too. It's early days for him need to see if the synequin etc improves things but will definitely consider the zero bute my friend has a heavy cob who was diagnosed with coffin joint arthritis at 8 and he is still going strong at 24 she swears by it.
