Hi
Did you get to the bottom of this? I use an KC La Pierre equine podiatrist - they are fantastic.

We were back at the Vets for a checkup/review on Wednesday - x-rays showed his foot balance to be greatly improved, his pedal bones still flat, slight artheritic changes and bone spurs - the spur in his right hoof being signicantly larger than the one in his left hoof. On the lunge on a soft surface he was sound on both reins, on a hard surface in trot he is still lame on the right rein. However overall there is improvement in his movement - more forward going and only 'pottery' on hard surfaces. He is now shod on all four and this appears to have really helped him - more forward going, happy to walk on all surfaces, less pottery. The farrier comes every 5 weeks to maintain his foot balance. The orthopedic vet has recommended he stays on a small amount of daily danelone and glucosomine, also to keep exercising him being mindful of ground conditions and keep on top of his weight. Perfectly happy for him to hack, hound exercise, pop occasional jump but competition days are over. I creak a bit and my pony creaks a bit - so we are going to grow old creaking together!

Glad to hear Andy is much improved and the shoeing has helped.

Pleased to hear he is doing ok, and as long as he can do enough to keep you both happy thats good.

My Fell Spud has ringbone, arthritic changes and bone spurs and he continues to hack when ground is soft although he cant cope when ground is like concrete, he is off bute now and I have found that white willow bark fed at 2-3 tb spoons a day works well for him and keeps him comfortable, it contains salicylic acid so is natures asprin, my vet has been so impressed with what its done for Spud he now has several horses with similar problems on it with good results. Its also cheaper than bute at £11 / kilo.
It certainly helps with the weight to keep them ticking over
