Does anyone know of a foster mare for an 11week old warmblood foal? His mother (mare of a friend of mine) died last night from colic.
Obviously everyone is devastated, but we're now focussing our attentions on arranging the best for the (very gorgeous) foal.

sorry, no, but I wish you every success in finding the little one a new mum. Such a terrible thing to have happened and at this time of year too. all the best to everyone concerned.
you probably will have rung the foaling bank won't you?

I think the owner has done that, I know someone has mentioned it to her - she's just asked that her horsey friends put out feelers for her too.
It's such an odd time of year for finding a mare too - and for an older foal. It wasn't a case of buy one get one free, but rescue one get one free - she wouldn't have planned to have a foal this late in the year. (Long and very VERY sad story)....

I don't know of anyone, sorry.
Can they get him a friend and bucket feed him?
Julie P has experience of this.

he's currently in with an elderly gelding who they use when they wean the foals off, so he's got some company. He's also quite happily eating solid food and hay - so is getting nutrition. So he'll be OK - but obviously being with a 'mum' would be best both physically and socially. Luckily he's been well handled since tiny, so is coping well with having to take cues from humans rather than a horse. It's just so sad

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions everyone - looks like they're sorted for now. A nice bolshy sheltland who's giving him what for if he gets above himself, but is friendly and comforting when he's not

I hope things go well for the little man. Shame about his mum, but a friend is what he needs and it seems he has iine. All the best x
