We are off to Yorkshire for a week, staying in the Masham area. I'll still keep looking on here though. Any dalesfans in that area?
I hate leaving the ponies but they are being well cared for and Ali is coming round most evenings to get Harvey in for a groom, cuddle and some councelling which he says he needs after his traumatic experience at the beach. lol

Pam!!!!! I'm 7 miles from Masham! You are very welcome to call in here or to meet up locally. I'll pm you my phone numbers, but don't worry if you are too busy exploring Yorkshire.
It's a fab area to look round, and Masham is one of my favourite small towns. Two breweries (Black Sheep one has a fab cafe), there's the icecream farm/shop at Jervaulx on the way up to Leyburn, which is also a lovely town. Middleham gallops to see the racehorses. Jervaulx abbey is really unspoilt and uncommercialised - I keep meaning to go, but have never gone, though I have been to their tearoom which is excellent! Then there's Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal. Also a glamping place called Bivouac which has a really unusual eco-friendly barn conversion cafe. Well worth a little trip. I love their decorations in the cafe. Bit pricey, but nice. Then there's a cafe in Masham, far corner of the market square - used to be called suncatchers but changed its name to something I can't remember.... something like Johny Afghanistan or something like that. Really nice simple well priced food and a lovely bohemian atmosphere.
I'm sure there's loads else too! You'll have great fun.
It'd be good to see you if you have time.

Penny, I did realise after I'd posted that my reply was a bit food-heavy!!!! LOL. And that is without mentioning our village pub which does excellent food now, or the Indian restaurant in the next village (nice food, but its main strength is that it's just so unusual to have an indian restaurant in a fairly small village 2 miles away!). Trying desperately to think of things to do that don't involve food......... but haven't come up with any yet!! Sarah

She made it sound so appealling, I'm ready to hop a plane and come for a look too Some of the best memories I have of my DFs visits were great food, lots of ale and wonderful company I'm sure you'll have a great time, Pam. And just think, with Ali's brilliant counselling, by the time you get back, Harvs might be up to facing the scary moving water again.

..... an yes, I'd forgotten that one! Great day out. I think you probably still have to buy a ticket offsite (somehwere in Leyburn) before you go, as they are on timed tickets. I don't remember their tearoom being amazing but the rest of the place definitely is!
