This week has been very horse centric. Tuesday the previous owners collected their family horse from the herd. We were sad to see her go, as she's a sweetie, but she's their family horse, so that's life. Eldon hopped on the riding lawnmower and zipped the fenceline in the main field next to Dundee and Blossom's fence, and he pointed out the blatantly obvious, that the fence was down to knee height in some places. I'd already known it was low but Blossom and Dundee didn't. Dundee suddenly began looking at the fence in earnest thinking he could just step right over that and go look for Lass the mare who'd accidentally been placed in with them before. He's a gelding, but lately he's fancying himself a studmuffin
Blossom promptly herded him away from the fence, but I worried he'd try for the fence overnight, so I brought them inside and the next day we drove over to the valley to a big proper farm store. The day after that, I set about improving a quarter mile worth of fencing in the rain. At one point I emptied over an inch of water from my rain boots. I was so proud I got it done in a day, though.
Yesterday morning I turned them back out and Dundee ran to the fence and thought there were a few places that he could maybe still leap over. So I drug out more t posts and tweaked the fencing so Longshanks can keep his butt where it belongs. Blossom looked at the work I'd done and settled down to the serious business of grazing ~ ha! Gotta love a Dales pony's attitude.
Yesterday I thought I'd gotten a little sunburnt, but this morning I saw that yes indeed, I did get a sunburn, from fencing.... in the rain. I know it can happen on overcast days, but didn't think you could get burnt while it was raining.
