I'd like to get some sort of helmet cam to video from when I'm on board a pony. I'm thinking mainly for close-up stuff, like what the pony I'm leading is doing.
I have absolutely no idea how to choose. Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of make/model, supplier, what to look for, useful features, what to watch out for, quality etc?
Otherwise I'm going to have to gen up from scratch I think!
Thanks for any ideas.
Sarah

I have never used one for riding/sports but in my former life I used them for evidence gathering. I would go for a bullet camera as they are small and lightweight. You wouldn't want anything too heavy strapped to your riding hat for any length of time or you'll get neck ache! Some bullet cameras are not much bigger than an AA battery. If you want to see the whole of the pony being led, choose one with a wide-angle lens. A weather-proof model (or even better waterproof - used for surfing/scuba, etc...) would be a must. As would a shock-proof model. Check what size card they use as you may only get 5-10 minutes of video per gigabyte of card, depending on the camera resolution. Likewise, look at battery life when recording. More expensive models are wifi enabled so you can stream direct to a smartphone, and can be remote controlled. Cheaper models require you to switch them on and off, so choose one with an easy to feel switch/button. You could also consider mounting it on your shoulder as most of them vibrate so you know it's in recording mode, but you wouldn't feel the vibrations through a riding hat. Sorry, can't recommend any makes, models or suppliers because the ones I have used were military issue and I never had to buy one

Thanks Zelda. No, I'm not on facebook - I've joined a few times, but deleted my account within a few days each time. I just can't seem to get along with Facebook automatically linking me with all sorts of people, even when my security settings are locked down. That, and the fact it started sending me photos that friends of friends had posted and I was receiving all kinds of stuff that I don't want.
I'll probably try again with it in a year or so!
Thanks anyway,
Sarah
