Performance Show Schedule 2013.pdf (69.1 KB) This years performance show does have a change of venue, and is at Richmond Equestrian Centre. Its very easy to get to and we would love to see you there. There is catering on site and stables available by arrangement for anyone wishing to stay over. Saturday 24th August, all same classes as usual, but with an additional section, so to summarise: Intro Section - this is for novice riders, those who have never shown before or with essentially no experience. Novice Section - this is for novice ponies Intermediate Section - this is for those ponies who have a bit more experience And Open Section Then there are a few fun classes too, horse and hound and tack and turnout as well as driving. Come and support the show. As with all shows this one depends on entries to continue from year to year.

Was going to bring Jester but his back legs haven't been quite right for a few months now so done hardly anything with him not lame but not quite right either, having them xrayed when injections are due. He's gone really very grey around his face all of a sudden too, more than I would have thought for (what we think to be) an 18 yr old, guess that's what happens when they're used non stop in the riding school and goodness knows where from too young an age though. Hopefully will have Coral there next year if the little madam behaves herself now I've started to back her! Will hopefully be able to come up for the day if I don't get called to a job so if you need any help with anything let me know

Ooooooh, was just wondering if anyone was going to start a PS thread. Well done Penny!
We will be there - Tinker as usual (we are working on the belly.....)
Alice will be there too with her new jockey Lucy If things go okay, Duke might put in an appearance, and at the very outside chance Belle too!
Hope to see you all there

I'll not be there this year - shame as I enjoy it, and Richmond is a great venue. Loads of really easy parking, nice cafe, and plenty of schools. I was planning on helping out too, but then I realised.....
.....it's my father's 80th birthday that weekend in Hampshire, so I'll be down there instead, with the family celebrations.

I'm probably not going to make it this year as Richmond is just bit too far to travel Harvey - he is 19 now and I wouldn't do it all in 1 day. If we stopped over, he would have to be stabled and might stiffen up. A pity because in the 11 years I've owned him this will be only the 2nd time we haven't gone - the other time we missed it because of his muscle problem. I had wondered whether you are allowed to downgrade your ponies? Officially he would have to go in the Open because he was Reserve Open Champion one year but now we are both OAPs it would be too much.

maybe there should be a veteran section??
I do recall once seeing a FB share of an american competition where the horse rider combined age had to be over 100!

As an owner of 3 veteran Dales Ponies I'd like to see the older pony properly recognised. I enjoy Harvey more and more the older he gets and the more opinionated!

At the summer show, there's a trophy for the oldest mare being shown (Snowhope Beauty trophy I think). Dora and I (well, mainly me) were very happy to win that one year just by being old and turning up for a showing class!
You never know, maybe one day someone will offer a trophy for the oldest pony at the performance show, or a combined age one - that'd be fun.

Unfortunately, busy time with weddings, August. I am not happy about that, as I enjoy the Performance Show. But on the bright side, now I am in charge of bookings - I can always make sure no bookings are taken on certain dates (you know, things like Dales shows)> We have just had a cancellation "for personal reasons" I assume bride or groom has done a runner ......but that was the week prior to this show.

I'd love to come, but worry it is too far in a trailer for phoebe. It is about 140 miles, is this too far to ask a horse to travel? She does travel very well....

Difficult but if she is a good traveller and the roads are mainly good then I would think it's OK but better if you travel the day before. It's nearly 170 miles for me which is too far to do in less than 3 days with an older pony imo, even though the roads are all good. It's a long day at the Performance Show and my general rule is 2 hours travelling to a venue is the maximum I do in a day.

I used to quite enjoy doing the Veteran Horse Society dressage comps with Sam (before the Cushings/pergolide), was quite nice competing agains other oldies. There is a DPS trophy for an older pony isn't there? I forget the name of it/details but knew someone who's pony won it a few years ago. I wonder if there would be scope to include a rosette or two for ponies over a certain age in the dressage classes next year?? Based on scores across all three tests or something.
