It's been a rough year for the Riding for the Disabled Unicorn Centre. Our 14.2hh 10 year old Chocky developed an incurable and deteriorating neurological condition, so was put to sleep on veterinary advice in the spring. We then lost our elderly but still very bright and sprightly Blue, a real stalwart who had been with the Centre since it opened 15 years ago. A few weeks ago, our gorgeous Dyson was found dead in the field one morning, having shown no sign of anything other than rude good health when he was turned out the night before (the PM showed an intestinal torsion). We thought that was the end of the losses, but last Tuesday Biggles came out of a lesson, where he had looked after a very nervous first time rider with such care and gentleness, and collapsed with a seizure. I'm pleased to say that he has recovered, but must be immediately retired.
That leaves the Centre not only missing faithful friends, but unable to offer riding therapy to as many children and adults as normal as we need more ponies - and therefore the funds to buy!
