Just for fun and to brighten up the dreary Winter months, we are holding a competition to guess the colour and sex of the Kingmaker Dales foals that are due to be born in March and April this year. Gem (black), Tetley (bay) and Becky (black) are all in-foal to our bay roan stallion Coverdales Carnival King, so the foals could be black, bay, blue roan or bay roan. 2 points will be awarded for the correct colour, 1 point for the correct sex, and a bonus point if you correctly guess the colour and the sex of each individual foal. So in total, there's a maximum of 12 points to be won (3 mares x 4 points = 12 points). To enter just write the name of each mare and your guess as to the colour and sex of her foal in the <reply> section of this thread below. For example, you could write : Gem, blue roan filly. Tetley, black colt. Becky, bay colt. No edited replies will be accepted. Entries close on 1st March 2014. The prize is a £20 or €25 Amazon Gift Voucher. The competition is also running on facebook for "friends" of our Kingmaker Dales Pony Stud page, so if you're a DaleSfan and a facebook user you can have 2 attempts! In the event of a tie, one of our ponies will draw the winner from a hat! Have fun guessing, and good luck to everyone expecting foals this season ETA - Inca (Wolsey Quebec) is also in-foal, but this is to our black stallion Wilf (Thornville Pride). Since this foal is guaranteed to be black, we haven't included Inca in the competition.

Well! I think: Gem, black colt Tetley, bay filly Becky, black filly (And odds on Inca having a colt this time ) Whatever they have, they will all be beautiful and I wish happy and healthy mares and foals with easy foalings for all.

I have 2 lovely, enthusiastic french homes waiting for a filly from Inca, so she's bound to have a colt Safe foalings is all that really matters though.

What fun!!! Let's see, I'll guess: Gem: blue roan filly Tetley: bay roan filly Becky: bay roan colt I'm not fussed with prizes (would have preferred Defender standing in my barn this winter for a prize Ha ha!) but I hope they'll add to the roan dales gene pool this year Most importantly, I'm wishing for safe foalings and healthy mums n foalies this year!

Even if she has a colt it will be lovely if its anything like Destiny. She is a mini-me of her mum and I'm so glad she is here with us. We have built a lovely relationship with her already. She has a wicked sense of humour but is ultimately a sensible little thing. She loves to take my hat off when I'm poo-picking her stable, nuzzles my back while I'm bending down too. I cannot leave the stable until she has been scratched on her chest, wither and rump. She is a very affectionate and sweet girl.

Thanks Penny. That's lovely to hear. Destiny is a lucky foal to have been chosen by you, and it sounds as if you have a great relationship already. I think it was meant to be xxx
