Thanks to everyone who posted on this one. Yes, I had an amazing day!
My sister drove up from Kent and took me out for lunch - we only see each other a couple of times a year - and we ate in a lovely local pub restaurant. Luckily I did not eat too much because both daughters plus husbands and children turned up late afternoon with presents and birthday cake which was duly despatched. I thought we were just going to have a big takeaway meal back at my house and a family evening. However, they had different ideas and for the THIRD time in my life had laid on a surprise party. I must be getting more gullible, but I had no idea at all! 4 grandchildren aged 7 and 9 kept it quiet and so did all the friends and relations.
There were at least 70 people waiting at the local golf club (run by a Dales-owning friend of mine) when we arrived - with me swearing like a trooper when I realized I had been conned! My sister had turned round on leaving mine mid-afternoon and had been getting it together with the help of family and friends. It was the most wonderful gathering of life-long and new friends and relations, with often 3 generations of the same family there. So lots of littlies rushing about having fun, and so much chat to catch up on. Everyone had been asked to bring food so the buffet was amazing, with my sister bringing more than enough wonderful cupcakes with her! A friend brought his barn dance band so we had plenty of exercise even if we all kept going wrong. My Dutch sister-in-law came all the way from the eastern part of the Netherlands with her best friend who I had not seen for about 3 years. 11 people plus 3 dogs crammed into my little house last night so no-one had much sleep as we were all still buzzing. The Dutch two are still here tonight so lots more catching up. I am about to go off to bed now for hopefully a better sleep, but felt I had to post this first. Don't think I will ever trust my family again - but I love them to bits!! Have not ridden for days but so what.
