came by again today, this time it was more exciting as the fox and hounds came into our field - momentarily, I'm not sure what the ponies reactions were as I was ourt on the road talking to one of hunt might have been the MFH he did ask if it was alright for the hounds to go in. Hope I get a better reaction here to my pics than on Facebook Not so sure I'd have been calmly chatting with that huge tractor behind me Two wee vids flic.kr/p/r9uZza flic.kr/p/qRVDEA

I'm going hunting tomorrow!!! I'm so excited but pretty scared too. It's mine and Cubas first time ever but were gojng with someone experienced so should be ok. Just finished tack and boot cleaning...not looking forward to grooming and redoing my plaits tomorrow. I am terrible at plaiting. As long as I stay on I'll be happy

My gosh they look so smart! How exciting to have the hunt come through, and how very kind of them to ask first I wish we'd get that here, but am the first to admit we don't have any foxes that are problems. Thanks for sharing the pics Zelda Forgot to add, I hope you have great fun tomorrow Yanny!

What lovely photos and vids Zelda, I don't know why people would feel the need to make negative comments, I know not everyone agrees with hunting but it is personal choice, personally I wouldn't canter on tarmac, but I know it happens out hunting.
I haven't hunted for donkeys years but I do love to see the hunt, it's one of those sights that gives me goose bumps and sends shivers down my spine, it is very much part of our heritage and I think misunderstood by a lot of towns people.

I agree Andrea, the whole atmosphere amongst a hunt is fantastic. I hunted for about 8 seasons with the East Essex many many moons ago on ponies mostly and we always had a fabulous time. I loved the chance to ride across new country and watch the hounds working. The actual kill was sad, but necessary, as there were too many foxes about. The antis just do not understand the need to control fox numbers and shooting is extremely difficult to achieve a clean kill and many wounded foxes are left. With hounds, a fox is killed instantaneously or it escapes unhurt.
I never dared to hunt my big old Dales although she knew all about it as the hunt used to go past the yard she used to be kept at, and always gets very excited if she hears a horn. She was just too strong for me to be happy out hunting as I know she would have wanted to charge through the field! Mollie maybe would be better behaved, but I fear I am too long in the tooth these days for a whole day in the saddle.

I had an awesome day, thanks everyone. Despite using a stronger than usual bit and a martingale he was so strong! I managed to get on top of him though, and we had some amazing gallops through the most beautiful country estate I've ever seen. It was definitely something I want to do again even though I'm sat after a huge meal aching all over! Not looking forward to work tomorrow!!! I think it's such a shame people are against it...foxes don't even get killed nowadays, hunting is more a cultural, social and fun thing I met a lot of new people who were all so nice, and I thought we looked quite scruffy and amateurish but everyone was kind and said we'd done so well, despite me sticking out like a sore thumb on my spindly arab amongst a bunch of big hunters! As for cantering on concrete, I've never done it before but today I didn't have much choice as everyone did it!! I didn't want to, and tried to stay in trot as much as possible, but everything was so fast paced!
