So for the first time in weeks I've had time to ride cal. Unfortunately my boyfriend has lost his confidence on him because out hacking he slipped causing him to fall off so since then he's not been ridden much. Today I got on him and typical Cal he sprung into action! As soon as I was on he leapt forward and was striding out! Then dancing on the spot, and bursting into bouts of broncing and prancing! After this initial display he calmed down and was a plod as usual Then when we were literally about 2 minutes from the field we heard a horse cantering up behind us. I turned round and to my horror, there was Cuba cantering over!! D: the little swine!!! Luckily he followed us back to the field quite calmly, but we soon discovered he'd smashed through the fence and trashed all the electric fencing...ugh!!! We fixed it as quickly as we could but gosh was I annoyed! These two are just obsessed with eachother when one goes away, but in the field together they just ignore one another...such weirdos.

LOL well that's not quite the ride you were planning! Had to laugh at them ignoring each other in the field. So did Cuba walk calmly back to the field with you and Cal?

Yes he did! Only thing is Cuba is kind of the boss so wanted to be in front, but then wouldn't be confident enough so would let Cal take the lead, but then wanted to get in front again! Mad horse!! Good old Cal just plodded on, I was so proud of him

Aww well done Cal. Harvey is like Cuba, he wants to be the boss and be in front but as soon as anything slightly scary appears he needs to hide behind some one.

Gosh that sounds worrying, pleased you got them both in the field safely though.
My Sec D mare was like that with Spud, she was the boss and she was really horrid to him, she even once got him cornered and kicked him until he fell over in his panic to get away then carried on kicking him on the ground until I came running over screaming at her. She didn't appear to like him but went berserk if he left her, careering blindly though fences and anyone who happened to be in the way, she would happily leave him though.

Oh dear, so sorry your ride got spoiled like that I hope it didn't take too long to repair the damage. Do you have a stall you could put Cuba in with some hay while you take Cal out?

Oh dear, so sorry your ride got spoiled like that I hope it didn't take too long to repair the damage. Do you have a stall you could put Cuba in with some hay while you take Cal out? Yeah, we have a field shelter that's been converted so you can shut them in like a stall, but he freaks out when you put him in there. I even tried feeding him in there to get him used to it, but he'd eat then run away for a while, then go back and eat for a bit, then run away...he's such a stress head it's unbelievable! When I 1st bought him he was a bit underweight, and he was at a yard where he had to be stabled at night, so I wonder if he hates stables so got stressed and didn't eat much overnight causing him to lose weight. He certainly doesn't like small spaces anyway. He goes into panic mode.
