in my efforts to get Emerald starting ridden work again, first she reacted to the sedolin, then when she recovered from that I'd being doing lots of work with her in hand, at first she was quite strong and was trying to push me around which wasn't always easy to deal with nursing a broken finger, but we worked through it and she's been going really nicely. So last week I booked Sam to come today to start riding her and have been doing ground work all week with all her tack on, she seems to be really enjoying doing something again.
So, I was really looking forward to today, she'd been so good I even thought if she was good for Sam I might get on her for five minutes at the end of the session, then half an hour before she was due Sam rang to say her car had broken down and she was waiting for the breakdown men to come, so couldn't get to me.
I was so disappointed and now have to wait until Saturday until she can come, it's forecast to rain so that may have to be cancelled as well, I suppose all I can do is keep my fingers crossed. So frustrating.

Never mind, spring and better weather are just around the corner (hopefully).

Don't feel despondent, Sheila is right, spring is coming which will make everything easier plus things have a tendency to work themselves out.

Ditto everyone. At times I've felt the same; everything seems to be against you but then it all pays off and you'll soon feel on top of the world again. This will just make you feel even luckier and happier when you get her going again in a few months time

Broken finger? Ah yes, from the first few days of Em's back to work regime, so sorry.

Yes, about 4 weeks ago when she was behaving really badly whilst reacting to the wormers and sedolin she knocked me flying bringing her in one evening then charged off and I must have got the lead rein caught around my ring finger as it immediately started to swell. It was very painful and I thought at first it was just dislocated as it popped back in the next day when I caught it on something. But 4 weeks on and it's still very painful and out of shape, haven't had it Xrayed but my doctor thinks it's broken, I opted not to sit in A&E for hours as there's nothing to do with a broken finger except strap it to the next one anyway.

...so sorry to hear that but thinking you might actually want to have it looked at and make sure it is well-aligned before healing. Once it heals incorrectly, that's arthritis etc. which I think you already suffer from and possible curtailment of function.
Three feet of snow still here, too deep for anything and bitterly cold so feel your frustration re let's get cracking!

Ummm... you might actually go through the faff of having it xrayed and set properly. I know it takes up time and is painful, but my hubby had a broken pinky finger that didn't set right and end the end they had to rebreak it and reset it not at all what you want to hear, but it might be worth having it tended properly so it won't be a bigger problem later. As for the bad timing, I'm so sorry it didn't go as planned. Winter always makes things so much harder. Don't worry, all that groundwork with a saddle is clearly something Em wanted and needs. I'm sure as the others have said, it will make the time back in the saddle that much sweeter, and it's only a few weeks away until decent weather starts
