Our first brave Salmonberry of the season. Our first Daffodils who have burst forth despite the chilly weather. I actually have this pic as my screensaver right now And ....Gronk, the Great Blue Heron! He was being uber snoopy the other day, peeking through our windows at us. He's not easy to photograph, so I was pleased with this pic.

I love the salmonberry, I've never seen it before or even heard of it, I wonder if we have it in the UK?

On second look, is this possibly a type of Daphne, a mezurium maybe?

As far as I could find, Salmonberry is native to where I live, here on the West coast of North America. The Native Americans ate it and it is very high in Vit C. Eldon loves them, but I'm not fond of the flavor, so he can have mine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubus_spectabilisAccording to Wikipedia, I think they can thrive in the UK, and it looks like some of the stock has escaped cultivation. Easily done as the birds here love them, so the seeds get spread much like blackberry or raspberries would. Here's a pic of the salmonberries I found on a hike up Tillamook Head two summers ago:

Gronk the Stalker! I hadn't thought of that, but yes, he can be a peeping Tom at times you should have seen him walking in circles around the straw mushroom kits that Eldon set outside. I'm sure his thought bubble was, "What the heck IS this??"

He's so cool but creepy in a way! Like an eerie bird watching you all the time but you rarely see him...

Indeed, but we see Gronk daily over the Fall and Winter months. In late Spring he vanishes and is gone for most of the summer. I don't have a clue where he goes, but probably to some lake of some form as our tourists descend and our ponds and creeks get too small to support someone as big as Gronk.
