I've got Cuba some cavallo hoof boots. They fit really well, are great quality and don't move or fall off! The only thing is he walks and trots with a very extravagant action when he has them on! He looks like a pure saddlebred in walk and trots like a standardbred!!! He doesn't seem unhappy; if anything he seems happier, he no longer does the silly little steps on the road I assumed were because his feet were a little sore. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? And will he keep doing it or get used to the boots and stop?! I assume it's like when people put weighted shoes on driving horses to make them look more extravagant...he does look nice but not as comfy as he used to be! He walks like Scooby Doo!

LOL I use cavallo boots too and they are a bit clumpy but seem to do the job. Harvey did have a more exaggerated action initially but he soon got used to them. I think the clumpiness bothered me more than him and when his feet were a bit tender, he clearly felt better in boots. People who do really long distance endurance tend to go for the lighter, slimmer fitting boots like Easyboot gloves or Renegades but none of these boots go large enough for Harvey or any of my Dales.
Which cavallos have you got? The newer version is significantly lighter and Harvey gets on well with them.

Connie has a bit of an infection in her frog at the moment and the vet who vetted her said to pack it with an iodine swab and keep covered with vetwrap and duct tape when she goes out in the field to keep it clean, so I've been putting one of the boots I bought for Em on her over the vetwrap and she has been walking in this same exaggerated fashion but only on the one fore leg, which looks rather silly.
Hopefully Cuba will get used to them soon and his action go back to normal.

LOL, I hope Cuba gets used to them. I can imagine him doing his best Ministry of Silly Walks with them

Ministry of silly walks haha! That's what he's like! I'll have to film him, it's very funny. Pat, I've only got the Cavallo Simple boots, they do look a lot chunkier than the others that they do; I should've looked into it more than I did! But at least these do the job, and if he tries himself out by walking and trotting extravagantly I won't complain. for off road hacking and schooling I won't use them, and for hunting because most of it is off road anyway. I can't imagine jumping in them!! I'm sure he'll get used to them. He's only been ridden in them twice so far, thanks to the crappy weather!

When I first got mine, I was very concerned how Harvey would manage to canter in them safely so I took things fairly steady. Then one day I was hacking with some friends and he set of at a flat out gallop! To my amazement he managed fine and the boots stayed put. From that day on, I never worried again.

I must say that Lad's Fusions have been stellar in the snow, which I suppose makes sense as they are I think Norwegian. They go on really easily, stay on, totally obliviate snow packing in hooves and even give a little traction on slip. His hooves are so huge that I didn't have much choice so very happy that barefoot usually suffices. I have never been very adept at putting on (or taking off) other hoof boots (am infamous for holding up legions of friends on trail as try to squeeze a pair of hoof gloves on a hyper quarter horse) so quite pleased with these! They are so light, have had no 'fat foot' issues at all.

I measured Harvey's feet carefully and they came up as fitting the size 15. I tried a 15 and couldn't get it on. Swapped it for a 16 and still couldn't get it on. OUt of interest, what are Ned's foot measurements and what size of Fusion do you use?

Lad wears size 16 Fusions, the largest they make--his feet measured I think at 16.5 cm quite a round hoof, which these are the only ones that accommodate. He wears the Ultra Fusion which I got from a dealership in Canada. In reality have only used them when the ground is very unforgiving or now in the snowpack. Wish they would come up with a studded version for cross country jumping traction. He would wear a size 4 shoe (if he ever wore shoes!). Hoping these boots are sturdy enough for driving though--thinking of putting a damping pad in for extra cushioning but not sure they will fit. Cavallos did not even remotely fit him, and the EasyBoot Old Macs Draft (only others that sort of fit) fell off any time he got going in a good Dales canter.

Well I just don't understand it. Harvey's feet are also round and measure 16.5cm yet I can't seem to get the Fusion boots on. He fits a Cavallo size 6 perfectly!

I can't believe how big your horses' feet are!! Cuba's are about 13.5cm and Cal's aren't loads bigger (never had to measure his feet though). So average size hoofies id say. I think I got Cuba size 3 Cavallos.

I think Harvey and Lad are rather (ahem) substantial fellows Yanny, perhaps Cuba is more petite? I like to think of it as his having a good under-standing! Lad's hind toes are a bit rolled by the farrier, not sure if that makes a difference in fitting, but honestly I am NOT very patient about boots of any kind (the language my poor Archie used to have listen to when he lost an Easy Boot in the woods) and the Fusions are within my good girl manners. On the other hand I have had them only since last summer, not used them very often as usually Lad's feet are typical rock-hard Dales, and not convinced they are terribly durable but will see as time goes on. That I can get them on, that the pony doesn't seem to notice he has them on, and that they stay on--all good.

Lol I was very similar putting the easyboots on I got before these; and they kept coming off, I was so angry at them! The last time one fell off I couldn't find it (still can't) so thougt it best to get some new ones and someone recommended Cavallos as well as some people on here so I thought I'd try them, they're loads better! And I do think Cuba's a lot more petite...people who first meet him call him a she...he's so lightly built and feminine! But still even Cal's aren't that big and he's a substantial pony. Only 14.2 though, I suppose your horses are a lot bigger in height as well to have such huge feet!
