We probably weren't ready but I'm bored of intros and find prelims slightly easier in some ways as they seem to flow better. We did our 1st prelim 2 weeks ago and she did ok so went for 2 prelims today. Took the new wagon- it's lovely to drive and she travelled well. She also managed not to destroy anything on it- a minor miracle! P7 was first- went ok. Canter is still very much work in progress- we got the wrong leg but she did come back and went correct as soon as I reasked. Think we got 63%. p13 next. I decided I dont like it. The canterwork was a bit challenging for her- there was an oh sugar moment as the 20 metre circle lost steering, we nearly fell over the white board and she broke into trot. 60% so I wasn't upset as there were some good bits- lots to work on. She worked much better and there was some good pics!

Aw bless her, well done, it's a very good start, and you both look good to me. She does look stunning, she looks more active than on some of the previous photos you've posted so you must have been working hard.

She looks gorgeous. So forward going; she looks like a medieval knight's steed charging! Doesn't matter if she had a few hiccups; the point is she behaved well and had a good experience

She's such a lovely girl Glad to hear she's left your lorry intact and perhaps she'll find these new prelim tests more fun? She looks very bouncy in these pics

Well done Pait - every pony has to start somewhere and you certainly got impulsion. I think I have told this story of my original Dales' first dressage test when she was about 5, but I will recap it here as it still makes me giggle thinking about it. This was Minnie (see my post just now on the thread above saying how sensible she is!!) and the arena had been set up on a grass field with white dressage boards marking the corners. Minnie knew all about trotting poles by this time, and kept trying to trot over them, and not turn in front of them - as it was very wrong to run out of a jump! Not sure if the judge realised what she was attempting, but I was giggling loudly all through the test and the judges comments were something to the effect that "This young pony needs more schooling". She finished up winning various dressage classes so keep persevering with Pait!
