Hi everyone,
Just wanted to report in as I am finally back home from a 3 month hospital stay to try and improve my mobility (I have a long term disability and ride with the RDA). Unfortunately it wasn't particularly successful but it was worth a try.
Done a wee bit of riding but have now got an ear infection and no balance so can't ride this week. Oh well! However, I took Elvis, one of the RDA ponies, to an unaffiliated dressage competition recently. I was completely thrown when I saw all the other riders on their posh horses and then little Elvis ( a piebald gypsy cob just 14hh with a mane like an Icelandic horse that stands on end) next to them but he was an absolute star. We did preliminary 12 as it was my first ever able-bodied test and wasn't sure my legs were up to.it but we got 71%! I was thrilled to get 8's for my final halt and for my riding mark.
Will try and catchup with all the posts over the next few days but in the meantime good luck to everyone with your riding and ponies.

Well done on the dressage! I love it when the cobs do well.
What a shame you op wasn't as successful as you'd hoped. Is there anything more you can have done? I admire your resilience.
I hope the ear clears up soon, and you can get back on board soon.

So sorry that the operation did not go terribly well. Wel done for carrying on riding even when still getting over the op. I also love it when ponies or cobs do so well in dressage - 71% for your first ever test was really good.
I was at the Olympic Paradressage one day last year in London and saw the most amazing little Irish cob whose 2 pieces of music were The Pink Panther theme and Steptoe theme. They got a bronze medal (I think) and the whole place erupted when the results were announced.

Well done on the dressage that's a brilliant result Sorry the hospital stay wasn't more successful, it must be wonderful to be home after all that time. Hope the ear clears up soon and you can get back in the saddle.

Thanks everyone, yes,it was a shame the treatment wasn't successful. It was physical rehab/therapy rather than surgery which was why I was in for so long but these things are best for new injuries/disabilities and I have been disabled for 18 years now so it was a long shot but everything else has been tried so I haven't lost anything Went to GP though as infection not clearing and hearing went funny to be told my eardrum has perforated.Apparently they can heal themselves but take a few months. At least my brain will be well aired!

Oh that sounds nasty, hope it starts to heal soon and it doesn't stop you riding for too long.

It's a shame the physio didn't work for you, but always worth a try. Did you manage to regain any mobility from it? You're correct that it is best to have it straight after an incident, however. Ouch, sorry to hear about your eardrum ears can be incredibly painful, so Bravo! for getting out there and doing the dressage test with the cob Fingers crossed you mend fast

Hi Debbie I use a walking frame usually or crutches if access might be an issue but my main problem is stamina, balance and stairs. I basically have the human form of wobblers syndrome after the nerves in my cervical spine were crushed in a car accident and I already had a congenital bone and joint disorder so I wasn't expecting too much. I can still ride and can do side saddle if my worst leg gives in completely so could be much worse.

Thanks Maggie,
Yes Elvis is the best, apart from the time he threw a dicky fit in front of a panel of trainee judges on a training weekend! He can be a real diva !Love him, though.
How are you doing? Any exciting news I've missed?
