Argh! It's that time of year again. Every time I go to feed in the morning I come armed with a curry comb and the shedding blade. Both the horses are moulting like nobody's business: hair everywhere. I find something quite satisfying about using the shedding blades though and seeing a big pile of hair on the ground next to a pony who doesn't look any different to when I started half an hour ago. Just can't wait to see them in their spring plumage I love how they look when they're all sleek and shiny looking Is everyone else moulting by now?

No moulting here yet! Still only in the 30's daytime, and teens at night. Hoping for warmer weather in April!

Not much moulting here yet but I agree, there is something very satisfying grooming a moulting pony.

Yes both mine are moulting, but especially Connie it's coming out by the handful everywhere, all my clothes are constantly covered in horse hair, I agree it is very satisfying though, can't wait until it's warm enough to give them both a bath, we're having some sunny days but the temperature is still fairly cool.

My two unridden ones are shedding like mad. Mollie has started but not really going for it yet, and she is the one I want to get looking good for her shows. She had a bath on Monday - had her first outing of the year yesterday - see another post, but looking tatty again now!

Let's see, Blossom and Rita did their first moulting efforts before New Year's Day. Then we went back into our typical, cold wet winter weather and they've both decided to shed out their summer coats to regrow winter coats they're overlapping everyone else who's still shedding out winter coats. My favorite, though is when you're in public and you've got a horsehair lodged in a hind molar. I can't count how many times I've fished around, trying to get the annoying hair out while my audience is looking at me like I've sprouted three heads. Telling them it's horse hair doesn't improve their opinions.

The shedding here is curious--the black Dales has hung in on to his undercoat and the bay seems to shed in spurts but still sports some serious cold weather protection. They need it--more snow coming. Debbie--totally identify with the hind molar issue, I found a whole fluff of bay hairs had stuck to my ponytail when I went off to work from morning stables thinking I could change my clothes but no time for hair--rather a nuanced equine fascinator?
