with Sam, Connie was really forward so spent a lot of time altering the speed within the paces, just walk and trot, just using my seat, I still have the tendency to lean forward so keep putting my weight back when I notice I'm leaning forward. Em used to be very sensitive to this and stop dead if I adjusted my weight back, but Connie takes no notice of this or if I get unbalanced, so I have to use quite a lot of weight aid to get her to slow or she just thinks I'm adjusting my position. LOL. We improved as the lesson went on and I was able to slow her right down in walk and trot then send her on again just from my seat, it felt really good after our last lesson which was a bit of a disaster. I really felt we achieved something today.

Kudos for continuing to have lessons and work with Connie! She probably never paid much attention to rider positions before, so it's nice you were able to get her to understand what you were asking for Don't forget to breath easier said that done.

Andrea, She looks such a sensible and thoughtful pony--and you look like you trust her to be such. Happy rides!

Meg, I'm starting to trust her now, the incident with the pigs a few weeks ago when I hit the deck dented my confidence and my trust in her, but she's not put a foot wrong since so the trust is building now.
She is a forward going pony and seems to be getting more forward as she is starting to build fitness, so I am purposely slowing the fittening down, I don't want her too fit too soon, I want to be able to build my confidence before she gets properly fit. I do enjoy a forward ride as long as I've got brakes and most importantly that I trust the horse, a very forward horse I don't know and trust terrifies me.
I don't know whether it's just coincidence but she seems more forward on grass since she's had her shoes off, could just coincide with her being a bit fitter though.

Well done on getting your position sorted; I used to be the opposite, I've more of a tendency to lean rigt back and my lower leg comes forward, resulting in lazy ponies not wanting to move! I had a couple of lessons at a riding school a few weeks ago and learnt to get my heel and lower leg further back and my weight more forward. Doesn't it feel so weird at first when you've been used to riding differently then do it right?! Looks like you're really getting on top of her now. She sounds like a fun forward ride
