I did canter her in the school when I went to try her, but hadn't cantered since and not out hacking.
Yesterday we had a lovely steady trot across the meadow with her listening to me so today we did the same and half way along I felt brave enough to sit and ask for canter, she smoothly gave me canter straight away with no rushing and we had a lovely steady canter to the end, she came back to trot then walk as soon I asked her. It's really done my confidence in her a world of good, I know it's pathetic to get excited about cantering, but I am excited about it, looking forward to doing lots more now.

are you kidding?!?! It's monstrously HUGE that you can feel brave enough/want to ask for a canter and then to get such a sensible response. I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat for you!

Not pathetic at all! Well done, sounds like you're building up a lovely trusting relationship with her.

That is really great. However, word of warning with Dales it is all about 3 steps forward and at least half a step backwards! Remember they are Characters!!
