BBC2 had a brilliant hour long programme last evening - Iceland, Land of Ice and Fire.
Really stunning photography, with lots of wildlife info, and superb filming of the Icelandic horses. Wonderful way they are still farmed in a natural 'Viking' way. Really worth catching on I-Player. Stunning animals. Makes me want to visit now.

I agree - the programme was fabulous!!! I'm going to Iceland for 10 days in August and am ridiculously excited already WOW Air do cheap flights from London Gatwick starting at £49. It's a very expensive country for food, accomodation and car hire though, but the scenery, hiking, glaciers, volcanos, photography and horses will be worth it Hope I don't fall off when I try TOLT for the first time

I didn't see it but that is somewhere I've been wanting to visit for a while now. Lucky you, Helen!
There are quite a few Icelandic Ponies in my area, many doing Endurance Riding. I nearly considered one when I was looking for a horse 14 years ago but then I found Harvey!

My friend used to be at the military base in Iceland. He said it really was an amazing place. I'm sure you'll have fun when you go Helen, and if the tolt is anything like a fox trot or the Tennessee flat walk, you won't be falling off. It'll be a smooth ride, but gaited horses do go fast
