Last week in my lesson when she couldn't quite shorten enough to fit an extra stride in between trotting poles she stopped in front of the last pole and lifted her leg and pushed the pole out with her foot and then walked over it with the extra stride I wanted.
Well today Sam put out 2 sets of 3 trotting poles at different distances and over the first set we had to halt after the last pole, we did this no problem, and over the second set we had to halt over the middle pole with front feet one side of the pole and back feet the other side. We didn't quite manage this on our first attempt and we overshot and halted between the middle and last pole, Sam was just saying 'come round again and ask for the halt slightly earlier....' when Connie lifted her hoof reached it forward and started pawing at the last pole until she had rolled it backwards underneath her and she was standing with her front feet one side and back feet the other side, just as I had wanted but one pole further on.
Sam said she looked very pleased with herself, but we both just fell about laughing, when I had composed myself we came round again and I hardly had to use any aids I just thought/visualised stopping over the middle pole and she stopped in exactly the right place, she of course got lots of praise and a couple of treats.
I have no doubt that her actions on both occasions were deliberate, she really does want to please and give me what I'm asking for, it's just not always in the way I expect.

Definitely one bright lady you have there Andrea. Wonder what else she will surprise you with in the future. So glad you are having fun with her.
