I have decided to advertise Polly (Twywell Amber Leigh) for sale. I have had her for 3 years now and she has been an amazing pony. We have come a long way as she had only been backed for 6 weeks when I bought her. She will be 8 in August. I have mainly hacked and competed in dressage. I initially wanted to show her but have to admit that I got bored of this very quickly. We entered one county show where we came second in hand and then a year later a ridden class at a large show where again we came second, which was the end of our showing career. My first love is dressage and Polly has taken me into BD affiliated competitions, we have already got 3 pet plan qualifiers this year. However I don’t feel that Polly will take me up to the next level and this is where I want to go. She is more of an all rounder. She jumps really well, unfortunately I don’t. I fell off jumping years ago and have long given that up. My instructor jumps her and feels she could do well in this area; Polly does seem to enjoy it. She is a typical Dales pony in that she has a lot of character, saying that she has NEVER put a foot wrong but I don’t feel Dales ponies are for children or beginners. She is fantastic out hacking she really is nearly bombproof as we live on an army firing range and tanks are literally firing from the field next to her, helicopters also land in the field next to her stable. Excellent in all traffic, happily hacks alone or in company first or last. Good with farrier, vet, dentist etc. I have sedated her to clip but only clipped her as she was in a lot of work. She will live out with a rug but I bring her in at night in the winter. I do however leave her stable door open so that she can wander around as her stifle locked a couple of years ago and the vet suggested it was best not to leave her in overnight. This has never cause any problems since and she has stayed in during the day and travelled long distances in her trailer. At competitions she is amazing. Absolutely nothing phases her.
As I intend to get another horse to compete I will not have as much time for her. I am aware that this will not bother Polly in the slightest and I will be more than happy for her to stay in the field but with the ponies now being on the critical list I feel she should be out there doing a job. Polly will only go to a loving Dales home to someone who understands that they are not just ponies but wonderfully talented, opinionated individuals who always put a smile on your face.
