This weekend saw the british tent pegging association holding a 2 day competition down the road on the farm next to our yard. I've wanted a go for ages and one of the liveries knew someone involved and arranged a have a go session on Saturday morning. I took patience and Lu took Rory (and I will admit to questioning her sanity...). Joined as day members for insurance purposes and then we had to prove we could ride! Had to trot then canter 1 handed in a straight line. Anyone who knows Patience knows this is not our forte 2 handed!!! Then we had a short lesson in carrying and using the dummy lance before taking it in turns to have a go. It was harder than it looks! Amazingly both ponies didnt give a d**n about a lance the length of them swinging around their heads and side and both soon understood what they needed to do. Rory LOVED it-he loves galloping and got a bit carried away waiting to start. Patience also really settled into cantering the full length- straight!
I definately want another go next year!

See if this works- this was Pait early on in the session she got a bit more gung-ho towards the end. em really did question me about Rory as he can be very sharp when he wants to and we've had a few incidents of him loosing the plot this year. Saying that he adored it totally unphased by the lance though he did spin me in circles when I went to salute as he wanted to just go!

Wow, looks very (scary) exciting. Should we include it in the Handy Pony at the Performance Show?

Ha Ha, love that she cantered, I had visions of a storming dales trot!
Did we once try this at Camp at the James's? There was a guy who came, Jeremy was it/Cobnut? who did re-enactments with his pony.

I'd love to have another go and Rory would love this to be his prefered sport.
I'm like a big kid- mounted games anyone?

Oh I love mounted games, a couple of years ago our riding club did some adult classes at the annual fun show by popular request and it was very well supported the adults were much more competitive than the kids.
