Knight and Franz wanted to say Hello to everyone and let you know they have enjoyed a simply wonderful year of doing absolutely nothing but eating and enjoying themselves in their field. Knight is getting some white hairs on his head, I tell him they just make him look distinguished. I wish my grey hair did the same for me, just makes me look older. Franz has transformed from the scrawny 2 year old colt I brought home into a splendid 4 year old pudgy Haflinger. He is so cute that he convinces you to forgive him for all mischievousness. Wish I had been able to drive him more but he has handled very well his job of being Knight's very best friend in the whole world. I retired from work a year ago and hoped to have more time for horsey endeavors but had hardware problems with one of my knee replacements that resulted in replacement of the hardware 2 months ago. So basically a whole new knee replacement and recovery. Not how I had envisioned spending the summer but my knee feels so much better it was worth it. On the bright side by the time I can ride again at the end of October it will actually be cool enough outside to ride!

And I need to introduce our new editions, two red hens! I finally talked Bruce into letting me have them for the eggs. With the price of eggs here having just skyrocketed even he is now very pleased with the hens. They are quite fun to watch and wow do they eat!. I had no idea that chickens ate so much, nor that they would eat just about anything. They are proving very usefull in turning kitchen scraps, handfuls of grass along with other various greens into lovely eggs. Attachments:

Lovely to see these photos and get an update. I often think of you and Knight. Harvey struggled a bit this summer when it was hot so he sends nephew Knight his sympathies. Franz is looking great too.
Sorry to hear about your knee problems but glad to hear you are well on the way back to full fitness and not in pain.
I love your 2 new additions. Chickens are such fun and real characters, aren't they. I have one who flies over her electric fence at tea time if I am late coming to feed. She walks up to the kitchen to complain, or if I am out with the Harvey in the trailer, she will be waiting at the spot where I park the trailer!

Lovely to see these and hear your news! Merlin is pretty much a lawnmower now, although he still does the odd ponyride for children. He's pretty fit, but like you I can't ride at present (and probably not again.) Andy sends his love too - we're both very jealous of your retirement!

Hi Alison! So nice to hear from you again, though I'm sorry that you too are not able to ride. Merlin, like Knight, is probably quite happy being a very handsome lawnmower. I do have such fond memories of several lovely rides that Merlin very generously put up with me. And what great fun our visit was. I do hope both you and Andy will get to enjoy much deserved retirement in the not too distant future. It is quite interesting to finally have time to do some of the things you always wished you had time to do.

My goodness look at Franz all grown up now looks like he and Knight are bestest of buddies. Blossom loves the lawnmower status she rates it up there with being put on a pedestal and fawned over....no wait, that's just her fantasies... lawnmower status is as close as she gets to the Princess Diva status she desires. Awwhh, chooks! so good that the girls are providing eggs in a timely fashion. They're such characters, and very easy to care for. Sorry to hear your knee hardware needed a reboot, but I'm glad to hear the new one is feeling better for you. Take your time, and I'm sure you'll be making up for those lost rides Alison, so sorry to hear about your not getting to ride!
