My 7 year old is fast becoming a super all-rounder - though hardly in the league of many who post on here!
Three weeks ago she thoroughly enjoyed the 20 mile Newmarket Heath Ride in the company of Carolyn Truss on her lovely boy and her friend on a smashing Welsh D. She has since been doing normal hacking and some good quality schooling.
Yesterday she was in the RBST marquee at the incredibly busy Gransden Show (Cambridgeshire's fab one-day show which was celebrating its 113th birthday). In the large marquee with her were pens of chickens, Golden Guernsey goats, five pens of sheep, and ALL the entries for the pig show! She stood in her 12ft pen for over 8 hours talking to literally hundreds of adoring public from tiny babies to the very elderly. She had her head within reach of outstretched hands for probably 95% of that time, only occasionally turning round to grab a couple of mouthfuls of hay and then turning back to chew near everyone. The only thing that spooked her was a dozy Daddylonglegs which landed on her side and then flopped up and landed in the middle of her back - I had to quickly get in with her to squash it as she was convinced it was a mega-horsefly and about to eat her! All the horsey folk were amazed at her temperament (and looks - of course!) and everyone else just wanted to be hands-on and ask the normal daft questions. I hope I have got at least two people to contact Jo Ashby about possible ponies for themselves.
This photo was taken early in the day before the crowds built up - often during the day you could hardly see her ears at all!
Next weekend she will be at the Rare Breeds Show at Houghton Hall, and the following weekend back on a RBST stand at the Peterborough Autumn Show.
During the winter I hope to do more dressage and possibly get started on Le Trec - a new venture for both of us.
