Yesterday we did a 10 miles PR in a lovely part of Suffolk near the coast, it was on a large private estate which must have covered at least 2000 acres. It was over tracks, meadows and woodland and part of the ride went along a long stretch of a river estuary with wonderful views across the river Auld including a tide mill. The colours were wonderful, the weather was warm and sunny and Connie was brilliant, I put her in a kimberwick bit with the reins on the lower slot and I had instant brakes. We went past a large meadow with more cattle than she has ever seen, she was tense and worried but she coped really well, just rushing past shaped like a banana.
I went with my friend Julia and we travelled together in her 3.5t lorry, big mistake! Connie doesn't like Kira, I think the feeling is mutual as Kira started shouting and squealing even before Connie was loaded, they fought all the way, squealing and kicking, the kicking was mostly Kira but Connie did have a few little goes and she did most of the winding up tbh, we had to stop on the A12 to tie them up tighter which improved things but didn't stop them. Its the sort of box where the horses heads are in the grooms compartment so there's nothing to separate their heads and when Kira kicked you could see the bulkhead behind Julia's seat flexing which was rather concerning. For the return journey both were tied really short but still managed to fight, so in future we will have to travel separately to rides even though we only live half a mile from each other, which is a shame as we'd also planned some trips to the forest over the winter.
