Last ride of the season with ADR, though may get another couple of EGB rides in before Jan, in Thetford forest. It started off very foggy but by the time we set off on the ride it was brilliant sunshine and very warm, we did 15 miles, one 10 mile loop then back to the venue and out again for the 5 mile loop. She's not done this before but set out on her second loop just as enthusiastically as the first. We stormed round, I had her in a kimberwick bit on the lower slot and this gives us brakes and enables me to hold her when there are horses up ahead, however this makes her frustrated and she has started throwing little tantrams if I won't let her go. First she starts throwing her head in the air, then she stops, stamps her little feet and starts pawing the ground, I send her on sharply, she jogs along a bit further then repeats the tantrum, she's much happier if I let her trot on to catch up and pass the horses, I think she just likes to be in front, however she is quite happy to ride behind the horse she's riding with, providing they are going fast enough for her.
She also took the lead past about 30 sheep right up against the fence at very close quarters, I thought we might be in trouble as Enoch the young horse we were with spun and tried to take off then refused to go past, but after letting her have a little look she walked on calmly past them.
The forest was lovely with the sun shining through autumn leaves, and I did the whole ride without even thinking about touching my neck strap, although she has become somewhat more feisty as she's got fitter, I've know her well enough now to know she won't do anything nasty and have the confidence to enjoy her forwardness. I'm glad she wasn't fit when I first got her though as she would have worried me back then.
I didn't manage any photos but Tania took a short video which she shared to my FB page, don't know how to put it on here though.
