We had our second go at indoor trec Saturday and Harvey excelled himself. He surprised me by doing all the obstacles which worried him last time perfectly this time. It was almost as though he'd been thinking it over at home. We won all 3 classes we entered - 2 ridden Newcomers and the ridden pairs. As well as 3 lovely red rosettes, we won 3 large pro photos taken on the day but I can't decide which to go for. This is a video of the 2nd class, a bit blurred but you get the idea. It is something any one can have a go at: vid6.photobucket.com/albums/y207/HarveyDales/harvey%20trec_zpsp994gbbb.mp4

Well done Pam and Harvey, Em does exactly the same re. learning, if she finds something difficult she seems to think about it and can do it next time, I think it's called latent learning.
I'd love to do trec, I've missed a couple of indoor training sessions followed by a competition because they've been on the same day as pleasure rides, we have a competition coming up in May in the forest, it's a full one with the orienteering as well and doesn't clash with anything so thought I'd like to have a go if the knee is OK, the only trouble is I can't see to read the map without my glasses and I don't like wearing them to ride in, I find the bifocals a bit disorientating, I wondered about trying to get a pair of reading glasses without arms that I could have on a chain around my neck to just pop on my nose when needed, I have tried carrying an old pair in a pocket and putting them on when needed but the arms are difficult to get on wearing a riding hat.

lol I think the glasses problem is one a lot of us suffer with! I'm lucky in that I wear bifocal contact lenses so can usually read maps OK but glasses on a string round your neck is worth a try. I've got a "real" trec competition on the 17th - looking forward but not quite sure what I've let myself in for.

Just realised the trec competition does clash again, it's on the same weekend as the Beach W/E so that's no good, I'll have to see what's on later in the season.
That looks worth a try Kirsty, Pam, I can't quite bring myself to try contact lenses, I don't like the thought of putting something in my eye every morning, knowing me I'd probably drop one and lose it.

Well Done Pam & Harvey! That is the kind of indoor work I like. Here most folks usually just ride around the rail, around and around. How boring, for rider and horse. Le Trec obstacles make everyone think, much more fun.
