When I fell off Em 4 weeks ago I must have twisted my knee (I have an old injury, tore the cruciate ligaments 15 years ago) as the following day doing a PR I could feel it wasn't quite right but didn't take much notice as it has given me low grade pain on and off for years. However it got worse and was really quite painful after the ride I did with Mandy, it was so painful when I tried to ride a few days later that I got off after just 5 minutes. I've been resting it and tried to ride again last week as I had a PR booked for Good Friday, still too painful so had to cancel, I have another one booked for Sunday but will have to cancel that too as I still can't manage to trot more than a few yards, though it is reasonably comfortable in walk now.
I went to the osteopath last night who thought I'd damaged the soft tissue inside the joint and said it would take 6-8 weeks to heal and just to carry on riding as much as was comfortable but not to do anything that made it painful, so we'll just continue to walk out and try a little trot each time and assess it week by week. I have 2 more PR's booked on 9th April and the presidents ride on the 17th, I think I will have to cancel the 9th but hope it's healed enough for the presidents, it's only a short one (about 6 miles) so I hope to do it, though need to be able to do a reasonable amount of trotting comfortably to consider it.
I'm really gutted to be missing all these rides and not being able to ride properly now the weather is getting better, wouldn't have minded so much in the depths of winter, but I have a beach weekend booked near Holkham in North Norfolk at the end of May which I really don't want to miss so hopefully if I'm sensible now it will be right by then. I have been trying to do this beach weekend with ADR group for about 8 years and have never made it, always either not had a sound horse or my injury, only twice have horse and rider been fit and well, the first in 2010 with Spud and we had a family do so couldn't go and last year with Connie but I hadn't got the confidence to take her to a PR until July so missed it again.
Keeping fingers crossed this doesn't stop me doing it again this year.
