We finally managed the beach ride we've been hoping to do for over a year. We met up with Sheila and Jaycee at Theddlethorpe beach, quickly tacked up and were straight out onto the beach and rode south to Mablethorpe. Both Jaycee and Harvey were quite spritly and a bit tense so we kept in trot to start with. It was glorious. I'd brought my camera but stupidly left it in the car so no photos.
When we got to Mablethorpe we had a pause to let lots of little kids say hello and stroke the ponies which both boys approved of. Then we left the beach and skirted round the north end of the town, past the beach shops and the miniture tourist road train which, amazingly, didn't bother the ponies at all. Then we went past the caravan park and turned onto a track which skirts round a huge gas terminal. When planning the ride, I didn't appreciate just how close to the terminal we would be! Jaycee had a look of complete bewilderment on his face but both ponies behaved well and Harvey strode out, enjoying experiencing something new.
We had a little set back at some rubbish dumped on the track. Both ponies did a beautiful rein back in pairs and then rooted. I let Harvey look and take it all in until he decided it was OK and went past - probably because the grass ahead looked very inviting. Harvey had a good grazing session until Jaycee decided it was safe to follow. We then continued back to the village and onto the beach again where we had a fab fast canter back to the trailers.
Thanks Sheila for a wonderful ride. I am thrilled Harvey was so good - at one time there is no way he would have coped with everything thrown at him today. Dales Ponies are the best!

Oh that sounds a fabulous ride, I'm quite jealous, well done to both ponies for coping with everything, I always seem to do the same with the camera, take it and then leave it in the lorry.
