I managed to get to the PR I had booked in Kings Forest on Saturday, I had been undecided, I did 4 miles on Tuesday without any real pain and 6 miles on Thursday but the knee was a bit uncomfortable and felt a little unstable so I wondered if I should do it as Connie does get rather excited.
A friend who marked the course had put a cut through in for me making a shorter route of about 7 miles so I thought I'd go for it.
Saturday was very wet here and rained all day, just varying from light rain to torrential downpours and I did wonder at my sanity as I drove along the A14 with wipers on fast and still had very little visibility, it had eased a bit by the time we got there and wearing my new long Dri-z-bone coat we set off.
The route was lovely, I love this part of Kings Forest, with lots of really long, wide, sandy rides where we took full advantage and had some wonderful canters, it just seemed to go forever, Connie didn't get strong and even let me pull her up halfway along a track with horses in full sight up ahead. She did get cross a couple of times because in her view we did too much walking, I managed to miss the shorter route and did the 10 miles, the knee was sore in trot and canter, but not too bad.
Despite the rain it was a lovely ride, a bit slower than the last few, 10mls in 1.5 hours so 6.6 mph/ 10.6 kmph (I think) so still quite good going, I never intend to hurry but now Connie is fit she prefers to keep up a good steady pace and just likes to get on with it. I can highly recommend the coat, it covered every bit of me except head and feet and kept me bone dry, covered most of the saddle too so didn't even have water running down the back of the saddle so no wet bum.
No photos, not really the weather for photos and I left my camera in the lorry again
