I'm considering renaming James "Houdini" as he has escaped twice recently which wouldn't be so much of an issue, as he can't get off the field, if the extra grass didn't have the potential to trigger laminitis. The fence battery has now been recharged to maximise the fence! I have found another victim to ride him but she's only 9 atm....... Musk had about three inches of blonde earhair so I decided to trim it off, he was worse than a two year old at the hairdressers and he seemed to be 17hh! I'm trying out a track system to see if I can get him to lose a bit of weight, this morning he was at the furtherest point from breakfast which also happens to be more or less next to it. In true Dales fashion he thought that me taking down the fence would be a better idea than him walking all the way around the field first of all I tried calling him, then I tried bribery but in the end I chased him cracking the lunging whip from behind which worked on the third attempt. There's a sabre toothed tiger living under the oak tree in the far corned of his paddock which is why I was loathe to put a headcollar on him and drag him or he drag me Talk about aerobics before work

Lol. You can't fault his intelligence at wanting to taking the shortest "as the crow flies" route I wonder how many more mornings of chasing you'll have to do before he accepts defeat and uses the track of his own free will The track system sounds like a useful tool for human weight loss too. I'd better make myself one....

LOL that gave me a good chuckle to start the day! I can just see you chasing Musky down the track. I was thinking of creating a track system too but you have put me off. I am quite sure I would have the same problem - these Dales are not daft.
Well done finding another victim for James! I wish I could do the same for Dolly. She's been stabled for the last 6 weeks because she came down with lami - my fault really because we had fencing contractors in May and that meant for 2 days I let her have too much grass so that the tractors could get in and out. She's doing well now but I really need to get her ridden more once she is back out. She is hoping she can spend the rest of her life in the stable being served on - never seen her looking so happy and content but it's hard work for me - lost half a stone with just the extra work!

Well I could definately do with losing a stone but James gets VERY cross about being shut in. Hope Dolly is out and about soon.
James also found out the hard way that the fence was live - there was about 50 feet of the tape hauled across his paddock but he was still within the paddock.
As regards his lastest victim, I have to lead him and Mum comes too but it was beyond either of us to explain rising trot and James "helped" by bucking instead of trotting and, oddly enough, she didn't want to "trot" anymore after that.............
In true Dales fashion Musk has worked it out.
