Have any of you heard of this singing technique? I reckoned someone might have, but I'd never heard of it before. I thought it might explain some of the tones/pitches being used in Celtic music. I found this this morning Scandinavian signing brings swanI so hope the link works. I'll warn, the pitch is very high and odd to my own ears, but I've been fascinated to watch the reaction. The swan never waivers as she comes straight to the woman, her own cygnet in tow. ...editing because I've been to Youtube and now know what this is called: "Kulning is the word for the ancient Swedish herding call, that has its roots in the nordic medieval age. Because of its special high-pitched sound it was used to communicate with animals and creature through very far distances" And I found a video that shows Kulning being used in real time this year when some cows escaped their fence and were headed for the woods! Using Kulning to stop runaway cowsI wonder if this technique works for runaway ponies? UK coos too!!!! Using Kulning to bring cows in the UK

Just a quick update, I showed this to my parents who have a small small herd and my Mom practiced, used it and it worked! She was overjoyed as normally the cows won't give her the time of day

I've been doing something very similar to call my ponies, chickens and also Ben (our dog) for many years. I didn't know it had a name, I just find myself doing it because the sound carries.

We have something similar that I was raised with but it was only known as a 'pig call'. It sounds like SOOOOOOO-E! And as you mention, it does carry.
The pig call is simple and very brief, certainly nothing as beautiful as this. I might consider learning it to see if I can cut through Blossom's brain fog. Most times she comes very quickly off the field, but there are other times when her brain is miles away.
