our current storm A couple days ago, I spotted a flock of seagulls over a farmer's field on our way to the grocery store. Normally they never leave the beach. I found it very odd to see them circling the field and mentioned it to Eldon enroute. Once home again, I found the Weather stations had issued high wind warnings. The seagulls were right and the storms delivered starting around 8 this morning. I got the barns battened down. First breakfast not a biggie, but 2nd breakfasts ~ oh my! I stood with them while they got their drinks and refreshed hay, and mostly did a ton of consoling. The barns are made of metal and rattle something awful. Blossom was letting me know she did not like this! She wanted her brick barn like she had at Mr Ireland's me too, Bloss, me too. That would be a fab addition to the farm

*knock on wood for you Alison The storm lasted most of the day. I think we're due some more rains today and probaby some winds, but nothing like yesterday. Aside from some limbs down and a couple lighter items tossed about, we're all good. Portland and the Willamette Valley got it much worse for damage. They got 75mph wind gusts and I think one gust even registered 91mph which on the coast isn't that much of a biggie. I mean it is, and you watch what you're doing, but normally our storms come from the coast and then get muffled by the Coastal range before going into the Valley. The bulk of the wind gusts are in the 45 -50mph range for them. This storm came in at the end of the valley and simply marched straight up with full force. Trees were falling everywhere since they weren't raised in those conditions. Thankfully only a handful of people died. It's awful for those and their families, but considering how many houses and vehicles got smushed it's a miracle more people weren't hurt. Definitely not a day to go kite flying! Blossom was waaaaay more cheeful at breakfast this morning

It seemed really scary to me too. Portland is quite a large city and they weren't as prepared as they could have been. Still, I think the cleanup is going very smoothly for them.
Tonight is more unsettled weather so they're tucked up all cozy in their barns for the night. It's been a very cold winter for us, with more snow predicted for tonight in the mountain regions again. I think even we're due for temps in the 30*s F.
