growing in another winter coat I spent time with her yesterday, working on her mane and tail as I noticed it's shedding out. I thought it was for her summer shed, so I started on tail, reached up under her blanket to work on the loose shedding hair on her bottom, only I was pulling out loads more than I expected. We'd already done the whole winter shed thing already. Cripes! She's loosing the summer coat and going back to her winter jammies This morning was a bit chilly. We're at 37*F and last night was 36*F. Even with blankies it's a bit chilly. I guess Punxatawny Phil was right, 6 more weeks of Winter, with a very late start for Spring. ...except for our grass. It's gone a scary shade of founder- green and is growing at a mental rate.

poor girl doesnt know if shes coming or going. Pait and Evie are both doing major moults. you just touch them and end up coated in hair.

how long have you been spitting pony hair? Blossom's got masses coming off, but Dundee ~ oh my! You touch him and he poofs like a dandelion.

Harvey is still barely shedding but he never gets a full summer coat through until June and then, not long after, starts with his winter coat!

Reigny's like that. She's usually the last to shed, and clings to her winter fuzzies. What about Dolly and Frankie? Are they shedding big time?

Frankie is and Dolly is somewhere between the 2 of them. Dolly and Harvey are fully clipped so I guess they feel it's best to hang onto what winter woolies they can.

well with short hair (clipped) I can see why they'd insist on hanging onto their fuzzies Blossom's telling me she needs extra rations since it's soooo cold. No, not really, I have to keep an eye on her crest, but it's a great excuse for more food

lol Dolly's the same. She would eat non-stop given the chance and I watch her crest like a hawk. After last year's lami episode we've got her slimmed down to the perfect size and Ali is back riding her which has made a massive difference. With the non-ridden ones (Frankie and Lillie) I've made a track system running round the outside of the field so they have to move more. Water at one end and feed at the other. Fingers crossed....

I'm sure it's loads easier for them to maintain their weight if they're ridden. Thankfully with Blossom, I can control her hay intake and field time. The grass is gone that scary shade of lami green, so none of mine can be out. I've let Bloss and Dundee onto their field, but only briefly, and Eldon managed to mow it short before we let them loose. Dundee was pretty miffed when he first saw what Eldon had done! Blossom didn't care. To her, it's all green. I've had to take Blossom's hay and shake it out into long lines before. It works really well to encourage her to move while eating. Congratulations on getting Dolly slimmed down! It takes dedication to keep an easy keeper in good condition c;

We're trying to rest tinkers field,so she has only been roaming around the yard for the last few weeks.
It's helped with her waistline, but she is not happy!!

FINALLY! A day they can go play on their field minus blankies I've just turned out Bloss and Dundee without their blankies. Both took fast advantage of the field, dropping to roll. My field looks like I skinned a hundred bunnies where Dundee rolled

My 2 are both sheading like mad and I'm covered in hair just touching them, Em loves me using the sheading blade on her really quite hard, but Connie is a lot more sensitive and has lost enough winter coat to be back to 'don't touch me with anything more than a body brush thank you'

While Blossom loves a good scrubby with her rubber curry or my hands, or especially the rubber garden mitts, she does NOT like anything metal little Miss Pony Princess is far too sensitive.
