Sorry to hear about Harvey, I'm not on FB any longer. Thanks Barbara, it was completely unexpected and tremendous shock. It does mean I have more time for Eve now. I think I've got your email address so I will send you some photos. She has filled out a lot and has come through the winter very well. It does make you wonder how they managed to get her in such a poor condition last winter.

Pam do you think it was because Eve was going through a growth spurt coupled with winter/early spring? Harvey's passing was a massive shock to me, I can't begin to imagine what it was like for you take your time. You'll know when you're ready to do his memory thread. It took me a long time before I could face doing one for Galahad. Hi Barbara lovely to see you on here too!

Thanks Alison, losing Harvey was a massive shock and we've now got problems with Dolly and her nose abscess which now appears to have formed a mast cell tumour which is extremely rare in horses. Again, this is something I would have normally posted on here and there is no way I want to put it on FB. Re Eve, I really don't know. It could have been partly down to a growth spurt and we do know that she was bought at some sale as a 2/3 year old in dreadful condition. She was bought by a local riding school where they backed her as a 3 year old! Photos of her at that time don't look too bad but when I went to view her in May last year she was painfully thin again, spine and hips sticking our and she looked roach backed.

Well Eve is lucky to have found you Pam. She’ll flourish with you I’m sure, given your understanding treatment of her.
I was also shocked and saddened when I read about Harvey. What a superstar he was. All brought home even more when I read about him in the Dispatch last week.
I hope it all goes well with Dolly.

It brought it all back again when I read the current Despatch, especially the bit Jill wrote in the Point Competition section where I told her Harvey will be taking it easier this year. Little did I know......... Re Dolly, things have taken a turn for the worse. I haven't posted on FB because I simply hate FB more and more. I am going to put a post on here in the vet section and at least the few people reading this thread can take a look.

Ouch, little did you know indeed My goodness Eve really did go through a shockingly rough patch! She's extremely lucky to have landed with you. As for Dolly, I'll go and look for your thread for her. I read her adventures with the hedge to Eldon and we both had a laugh as Dales ponies do the darndest things. It seemed painful, but now I'm saddened to read it's stimulated a mast cell tumor. Dolly doesn't do things by halves, does she?

Thanks Debbie. Yes I'm going to post about Dolly's mast cell tumour which, as you say, was stimulated by the thrn prick. It is so unusual and there is so little out there on the internet that I thought if I post here, anyone searching as I have done may find it.

That's dreadful about Eve, I sold her as a foal to someone that had previously bought her full brother also as a foal. Then I was told she had been sold to a nice family in the north east but I don't believe that to be true.

It must be heartbreaking for you but she has ended up fine and it certainly hasn't affected her character or temperment. She is in fine fettle now. The only downside is she suffered with very bad sweet itch last year and I do wonder whether she was susceptible due to her lowered immune system and poor condition when I got her. Midges aren't out here yet but at least I will be prepared and hopefully it won't be so bad. I am still secretly hoping she will be fine and maybe it was all down to lice last year but I suspect I'm clutching at straws. Anyway, if I ever have to sell her on rest assured it will be to a good, knowledgable home. Hopefully she will be my riding pony now Harvey is no longer here but it will depend on whether my creaky old joints are up to a youngster. SHe is a joy to be with though. The minute she sees anyone she wants to come in and it isn't for food, she just likes being with people and doing stuff.

Awwh she sounds like a real sweetheart you never know, even as youngsters, Dales ponies can work as your mount, creaky joints and all.

Lovely to hear from you Row. How is Dan?
Re Facebook, I had thought of starting a page for Eve (my youngster) so I don't have to crowd my main page with horsey stuff but I never get round to it. Most Dales people use the main FB page Evie set up and some years ago Linda (dalesponyrider) set up a dalesfan page but it never took off. It is still there I think. Trouble is, I don't like the FB format for information/support etc but maybe we should take an other look at the site Linda set up?
