So yesterday being Sunday, such a scrambled day. I had Blossom and Dundee on the front pasture for some outside fun time and grazing. Eldon and I had darted into Astoria in search of lawnmower blades and a new car battery for the SUV. I dithered before we left, but they were having such grand fun, I left them to it.
When we got back from errands, I was STARVVVED! So paused for a half hour's breather and to bolt some food. Then my neighbor Katie, bless, she decided it was a lovely day, and went to her backyard target range to plink. Not sure what Katie has, but it's a pretty good sized gun. Ponies can tolerate it, but I thought it best to go ahead and bring them inside since it's early into easing them onto grass anyway.
Asked Eldon if he would mind helping since the gunfire was ongoing. Blossom's a pro, but Dundee, left behind, can and does turn into a big girl's blouse. I thought it might be helpful to walk them both in together so I wouldn't end up flying a Palomino Fox Trotter kite. Eldon agreed.
Haltered Blossom up, and she was more than ready for milk n cookies and naptime. I handed her over to Eldon and she walked through the gate civilly enough. I turned my back to the pair as I closed the gate, asking Eldon the rarity if he could just hold on while I sorted Dundee.
As I haltered Dundee and reassured him with the gunfire going in the background, I saw Blossom snatch a mouthful of bamboo. I was so busy with Dundee and trying to manoever through the gate, I didn't get to see real time what was going on, however Eldon was becoming very cross with Blossom.
In her Springtime sillies, Blossom had decided all men/males were complete idiots , and she decided to try it on with Eldon. She really ought to know better than this. So some shouting from Eldon, and she pushed, he pushed back and decidedly pushed harder. She was boggled, but kept trying her luck .
Long suffering spouse knows ponies are NOT supposed to get ahead of the person as you lead, which was what the particular fight was about. I was busy with Dundee, as we closed the gate and all headed for the barn with the overtones of pops from Katie's rifle. I told Eldon to circle Blossom, so he would end up ahead of her and thus place him in the alpha position. I was having a hard time on my own with Dundee bowing away from me to see what the gunfire was about so we didn't see the full affect.
I made it to the barn first, tied Dundee and dashed back to collect what I had originally expected to be my docile Dales waltzing in with my hubby. By the time I managed to reach them, they weren't talking to one another he handed over the leadrope saying he was dizzy from having to do all the circles. I thanked him profusely and tucked my equally irked pony into her stall.
Blossom ranted and chaffed for half an hour afterwards, clearly SPRING is in the air! She's convinced all males must kawtow to her I laughed and asked her what was she thinking?!?! She's only been raised with Eldon since she was a foal, she knows he's bigger than her, and won't put up with any nonsense. LOL she swivelled her ears back and puckered her face. I admit, I did laugh at her, she really does know better, and even in the throws of Springtime sillies, she should behave herself. Manners always matter. She looked like she was conceeding with chagrin as I left her tucked in her stall for the night Spring can make even the most dependable of them 'off'. I'm just glad hubby has a decent sense of humor and they seem to have grudgingly forgave each other.
