You need a sense of humor if you're going to have a Dales pony in your life. I went out with apple slices for the birthday girl. As I walked in the barn, Blossom looked up, hay in her forelock and over her ears like a birthday crown..... in the middle of my barn, with the broom knocked over. HA!
Of course I did the guilt thing of ''didn't I close that latch?! I thought for sure I had". I took a piece of baling twine to put around her neck and walk her back to her stall. I use an old web halter to close it, although I do have a second latch, I've not used it for years. Blossom had thoroughly sucked the end of the halter and had undone it! Mensa ponies indeed. I made sure to fish the second latch securely in place.
Then we settled for breakfast hay and sang Happy birthday to her while giving her apple slices. Blossom's made it a memorable one for sure! Happy 13th birthday my baby girl!!!
