Shall we start a new chat 😃 So, one of my ponies, Caphouse Benjamin aka Alfie is now 8 yrs old. He has always been a late developer, and has had some lameness issues so it was only last year he did any continuous work over the summer. He had winter turned away and in spring was twice as wide and looked much better. Has not done much this year for various reasons, just long raining couple of times a week atm, he has now just had a spurt and is definitely bum high.
He's already 14.2 so God knows where he'll end up
Anyone else's pony had late growth?

That's interesting. Can you put some photos up? I know they do keep growing until 7 or 8 but not so much in height, or so I thought. Eve was 4 when I bought her and a very weedy, backward pony. She had a good start until about 18 months then we don't know what happened but she ended up in the sales in dreadful condition. She has changed massively in the 18 months with me and you wouldn't recognise her from the pony I bought. She is still slightly bum high and is now 15hh but then her mother was big too so it's not that surprising. I don't expect she will grow much more though.

Sammie is 7 this year, and has always looked a bit bum high, however this year he seems to have evened up a bit. I’ve not measured him since I got him. Must do that and see what he is now, I was told he was 14.1 when I bought him.
I couldn’t help noticing that a friend’s pony that was 8 this year has changed a lot in the past year and really looks mature now.
I’m hoping Sammie is pretty much there bow as we’re on to about saddle No5, and this time I ended up buying new 😮😱

I've only just started riding Eve and am doing very little. Initially Harvey's jump saddle was a perfect fit for her but now is too narrow. Luckily his old dressage saddle fits fine for now but won't for much longer at this rate! People tell me to get a cheaper changable gullet type saddle for now but I need the comfort of a saddle for myself. Have discounted treeless because of the width they sit you at.

I’ve had him in an ideal vsd, a frank baines, a native pony and cob 17” xw WH, an AH WH upswept panel 17” xw and now a Native Pony and Cob VSD 17” wide-ish, not totally sure of it’s width!
He’s got a proper curve to his back, and a defined wither for a Dales so he’s not the typical flat backed shape. I’ve been assured that this new saddle can be adjusted to fit if he changes slightly so not quite so appalled at buying new!
I probably wouldn’t have changed so often recently but I’ve had Zana ride him and instruct me and so she’s picked up on stuff I might have missed, lol.
I saw an interesting article about male/female saddle fitting on FB, will try share it (We’ll see....)

Blossom didn't even out until she was 6 years. I think the most drastic change I've seen was Rita who was a grade mare. She'd had a colt when she was barely 3 (with previous owner) and she didn't wean him, so he sucked on her until he left ours as a 2 year old (no safe way to wean here). With the colt gone, not only did she shoot up in height, she also filled out massively in her barrel, and her face. Clearly everything had gone to the colt. So all of her growth and catching up was done between 5-6 years. It will be interesting to see where Alfie ends up height wise

Duke is now 6 and ha only jut started looking in proportion. He still has some bulking to do. My current favorite saddle is an adjustable kent and masters cob. Took Pait to Patrick Wilkinson and tried a few- this one really works for us both
