Those of you with your own fields....what sort of machinery do you use for jobs around the place? We have nothing and I’d like to be able to do the harrowing myself, maybe lug some fence posts about, that sort of thing. We’ve only got 3.5 acres so don’t need a big proper tractor. And I hesitate over quads as they seem to be so nickable. One neighbour has a cute little Kubota, another uses a lawnmower type thing. Any preferences? And why?
And I know, I know, I should get a pony broken to drive and do it that way, but if we get a ‘toy’ the OH is much more inclined to be interested in jobs 🤪🤣

I've got a little kubuta. I love it! I just wish it had the front loader attachment and was possibly slightly bigger as it's too small for a post knocker. That said I get away with using it more in winter than a large tractor and I have smaller tracks between fields and it's easy to use to level the school

Can I ask where you got it t from? And is it easy to maintain?

Our neighbour has had her mini kubota for many years, must be over 15 now. It does a brilliant job on her land - harrowing, topping etc.
I fancied one ages ago but Andy convinced me a Honda quad would serve me better. I use it for poo picking, towing small and large trailers and harrowing plus all sorts of odd jobs around the place. OUr land is hilly and has trappy corners plus it gets very boggy in places. Our neighbours land is flat. The quad gets round everywhere in all conditions without making a mess of the ground but maybe the Kubota would be similar?
Andy has his pride and joy - a 1962 Massey 65 with a front loader for all the "big stuff" but it's no use in the winter when it is really boggy here.

Our land is hilly, good to hear your quad copes with it, I’d assumed a kubota would be more stable but maybe not!
Anyway my neighbour has just promised to come harrow my hill field this morning with his kubota, so I’ll be able to judge first hand how one copes!

If your land is hilly and clay like ours, you will need 4wd whatever machine you get.

Echo 4*4 is essential. I went mini tractor so that I have the option of running PTO powered attachments such as power harrows, toppers etc should I want to. There's a lot of mini implements for them now

I've got a small Kabota and I love it, we are heavy clay on a slope with lots of tight corners and it harrows, sprays etc with no problems, has a really tight turning circle, very stable on rough ground and over lumps and bumps.

Thanks all! The OH is keen on a kubota so I think we’ll be trying to find one this summer.
