Today i was looking after the horses for Pam as she was in York. I was planning on taking Harvey out for a little ride to the next village and back with Andy on the bike. We set off fine then two minutes up the road two off road motorbikes saw us coming and still came hurtling towards us with no intention of slowing down, Harvey put in a small buck and we carried on. A few meters down the road a huge tractor camde up behind us at such a speed. I put my hand up and asked him to stop or slow down so i could trot on to a pull in....... nope he came past regardless thankfully Harvey was good and just stood still and waited. we was on our way back when harvey spotted two little children on small ponies, He wanted to get to them so i let him pick up the pace a bit then he soon settled. As we drew nearer he got sillier and sillier i had to hold him back because there was traffic coming from both directions, He put in another small buck so i pushed him to get out the way of the traffic and we carried on past the horses. Harvey soo got upset because he had left them behind and right before a blind bend threw a huge temper tantrum nearly landed on a car which had no idea harvey was going to do this and hgad starte to over take I managed to stay on but decided it was best i got off and lead him home other wise i would be making the situation more dangerous. he is such a monkey. on the other hand here are some pics of him. the sun got in the way with his head over the door alixx

Oh naughty Harvey!! Mind you it was very inconsiderate of the bike riders and tractors but I'm afraid there are often people like this on the roads ...
Well done for sitting his bucks and don't blame you for getting off to lead, it was the right decision for you. I'm glad you all got home safe and sound!!

Typical, isn't it - every thing always happens at the same time! I think Ali did really well to stay on him because I know just how unseating he can be when he gets himself in a tizzy and starts his bucking. You can't be doing with nonsense like that on our main road so Ali was quite right to get off.
I think Harvey is in need of some serious work - he is in for a shock this week! ;D

Ali WELL DONE for staying on and then making the decision to lead him home Some days are just like this, but I do wish motorbikes, and other vehicles were more considerate. I think its a case of not thinking things through, and not realizing how a horse/pony would react to their cars. As for the tractor driver ~ that's just plain rude He should know better!

What a little tinker, and well done Ali, keeping calm and in control, some people can be so incosiderate where horses are concerned, I have,nt ridden Merls for over two weeks the weather has been so awful and he is in for a shock too as soon as we get some descent weather.

What a little pickle! You definately did the right thing Ali! Some road users really have no idea, it is such a shame. I think there ought to be a stronger issue made about meeting animals on the roads when people take their tests etc. You really do find a mix of people in vehicles, don't you? I'll never forget the time I was hacking on my own with a pony I loaned around some quiet roads when we met a huge 'party' of Hells Angels! There were easily 20+ motorbikes of the very noisy Harley Davidson variety. As they approached on the other side of the road, they all pulled in and turned their engines off and waited a till I was a good distance away before they went on their way! I was SO touched I was shouting thank you's all down the line LOL! Naughty Harvey, ponies do keep us on our toes, even the most bombproof/sensible ones have their cheeky monkey days!

Gosh Ali!! You really did handle the situation very well from you have told us. Little Monkey I bet he was having a strop because his Mum was away for the day. Glad everything turned out OK in the end and you all came home in one piece.

Well done Ali. Hope your next ride out is a bit quieter!! You are not the only one to get off on the road and walk back. I did the same on Saturday. We were on a narrow road when a gang of kids on bikes came up behind us and Magic started to jump about There were cars coming towards us and I thought it would be easier and safer to dismount!!

Sounds like you met all the inconsiderate drivers today. Harvey really is a monster at times though. I hope you told him so.

Well done you.
I didn't realise how far down it was off Harvey until read Pam's post the other day!
James threw a fit - about a spaniel of all things - on Sunday but he hadn't been out for a fortnight...
