I haven't really done a huge amount of lunging before and only really with experienced horses. I've done a bit with Jay, but mainly off his headcollar with 2 reins because he seems to go a lot better like that and I feel as though I have more control. I tried a few times in a cavesson and lunge whip but he just dragged me around everywhere!
I want to start to lunge and long-rein Zorro. As you've probably already read he's a 4 year old welsh sec d that's had limited handling before he came to us and is a bit of a wuss. I was just wondering about the best way to start him off lunging.....Should I try him in a cavesson, or I am I best waiting until he's more used to his bit so that I've got more control?

Lungeing off the bit gives you a heck of a control, esp if it goes over the poll. BUT it's so harsh you could upst him.
I would be tempted to go for the lungeing cavesson and gradually push him out onto the circle.
Harley went much better when I long lined him, he's rubbish at lungeing!!
