Gosh, he does look like Bea when I got him. I'll try and find a pic. He needs to develop some topline definitely. Awwwww - good luck with him, he looks a good sort. Found the pics. Here he is when he arrived......(gosh he looks down) And another...... This is him six months later...... Nothing recent - but I'll try and take some at the weekend.......

looking at his conformation jane, his neck is set on quite low, so its not a natural thing for him to gazelle with his head..........sooooooo, that is telling me that the bit may well be your problem.......the dutch gag that is.

Hes a lovely boy! No his neck doesnt look to bad to me either just needs muscling up the right way and he needs more condition on in general. Isnt the dutch gag an elevator bit although I may be far wrong here, I know I tried it with amber twice and she did the ears up my nose thing and said " MUM I HATE THAT!"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gag_bitI find this website quite informative about all sorts! Gags are known to be elevator bits, but with those such as the Dutch, you can chose how severe the bit is to be. He is a lovely looking lad! And he suits the western saddle! Definately! Have you tried to ride him in a bosal? Lisa's Lea goes fantastically well in one!

He is nowhere near as bad as I thought he'd be, but he lacks topline which doesn't help matters. This is what you call a developed under neck muscle LOL! Dancer has topline but has a high set on neck and is very upheaded, which hasn't been helped by the way he's been trained. I try to get him going like this when I ride - I am trying to get him to stretch down and take the bit forwards but he tends to curl up! This is Anna riding. And this is what he wants to do in canter

He lacks muscle in general!! I think some lungeing and long llining to get him to stretch are in order. Heis 17 and has had 2 years doing not much at all (ridden once every couple of weeks or so), and I'm not planning doing anything strenuous with him because of his breathing problem so I'm not too worried really, but would like him to look a bit more rounded. He's a happy soul though.
Edited to say he's now in a french link. I was thinking of trying him in a hackamore too, they tend to go long and low in them.
He's an amazing jumper! Jumped a huge log in the forest the other night.
Might get his back checked out too, he sometimes 'leaves a leg' behind ewhen we are going along....
