Blossom's pink nose is going to be a candidate for sunburn, especially as we go into summer. I don't want her cute nose sunburning, and I've never used it before...
So what do you use for sunblock on your pony noses? I was thinking something strong (like 30) and made for babies??? How often do you apply it? One time a day? More?

The best we've found is factor 50 and hypoallergenic so theres no skin reaction.

Let's hope these monsoons stop soon and we can start complaining about having to use the sunblock again.

A friend used ROC sunblock on her welsh pony she said it was the best. Theres some info on this website www.ubht.nhs.uk/eDerm/General/sunscreens.htmSeeing that I have just been soaked to the skin (damp underwaer not recommended for long rides) I think in 'sunny' Yorkshire we want total water proofing

No idea what sun is... can we have some sent over please to remind me?? I tend to use the highest factor waterproof hypoallergenic sunblock I can find- usually a kiddies one. If its very hot and bright I try and put it on as often as possible- usually twice a day but to say thats rare is an understatement!!!

Debbie, I've tried quite a few on Bo's nose including the fluro and roll on ones LOL. I can't remember the one we used last year, but it was a total block and waterproof. Trouble is Bo absolutely hates it so it's a bit hit and miss if you get it on there, and I'm not convinced it stays on long anyway when they're grazing. The best thing is a mask, which is also good for keeping the pesky flies away.

I ususally look out for buy-one-get-one-free offers in Boots and get the highest factor, unscented, hypoallergenic formula I can find. Usually children's ones. Bea hates having it put on though - I have to warm it in my hands first! What a wuss!!!
Sorry Debbie - if you don't know, Boots is a big chemist chain over here......what you'd call a drug store I guess.

When we had our grey mare we bought a colour changing sun block with a factor 50 especially made for children. Cant for the life of me remember the brand name. It went on pink and as it faded to white we knew it was time to top it up again.
Now im sure this would be a better idea to get the colour changing one especially on her delicate little nose. Least you would know for sure that its working. She is so precious, and id be a worried mummy like you are with her. Hope you find what you are looking for?

LOL...well as soon as I posted our sun disappeared! Gone for four days of isolated thunderstorms and showers. But many thanks for the links and ideas! I'm not sure if she'll put up with the sunblock or not, a matter of trying really. LOL...yep Sue I know Boots! Had to buy from them in the past...really nice drug store, wish we had them over here... I do like the sounds of that colour changing sunblock...I wonder if we have something similar? I'd imagine kids would love that idea... And in the back of my mind, I'm still thinking of the flymask that does all, covers ears and nose for when the flies get thick around here. I've been trying to stay on top of them, but we'll see as summer progresses.
