Alison, my friend, noticed her mare Penny, had something floating in her eye. She showed it to me, and it looked like a piece of white jelly. It made me go all funny just looking at it. Vet came out, and said it would have to be removed (the jelly not the eye!)
Penny went into the hospital on Tuesday, and they just froze one side of her face while they removed the thing from her eye. Glad it wasn't my eye - I bet it hurt afterwards. It was sent off for analysis, but the vet is pretty sure its not cancer. Alison has been putting ointment in the eye, every three hours, and Penny has been turned out today for the first time wearing a fly veil.
Has anyone else's horse had anything similar?

Where abouts in the eye was it and what did the vet think it was? Never heard of this before but about 12 years ago I noticed a tiny brown blob floating in Quest's eye. The vet came out and was concerned it might be cancerous so talked to some expert about it. I was told it was a cyst and could be left, it would grow and eventually burst. It has grown quite big but not burst. The vet thinks it will have restricted Quest's vision somewhat but he's never shown it.
I hope Penny will be OK and the lab results are good.
